TYN Connections: a side project for month one of B-School
Building a playful Yale word game while learning web design at Yale SOM.
For a zero-credit course at Yale SOM, I decided to learn web design by building something deliberately tacky, playful, and personal: TYN Connections — The Yale Network Connections.
The idea began as an anagram of NYT Connections, then became a small tribute to New Haven, Yale students, Gilmore Girls, and anyone who enjoys a good word game. There are four games live today, each built around four sets of four connected word pairs, with more red herrings and puzzles on the way.
Learning by making
Like many projects built during the current AI-tool wave, the implementation used Codex and other coding assistants. But the more human part was deciding what to build: something with a local sense of place, a clear invitation to play, and enough personality to feel more like a campus artifact than a generic demo.
The first version is best viewed on a computer or tablet; a mobile-friendly version is still under construction. Try TYN Connections and, if you play, sign the guest book while you are there.
A small, zero-credit side project — and a fun excuse to learn by shipping.
This is side project number one in month one of B-School. More games, more experiments, and hopefully fewer red herrings are coming soon.
